Arcoiris was created by native language teachers for the special needs of Spanish speakers living in the United States. One the main features of this program is that it teaches the writing process.
Arcoiris is based on the principle that children learn by doing valuing what they already know and immersing themselves in all aspects of communication
Arcoiris follows a whole language approach. The contents of each teaching unit is structured around a motivating theme -such as environmental conservation, science, math or gender equality.
Arcoiris builds on the students' knowledge base and their writing skills as the series progresses. For example: students learn the names of their fingers at the first level, the parts of the body at intermediate levels, and at higher levels the parts of insects, fish, and other mammals. Another aspects of the same topic are added to the material and information they have previously learned.
Arcoiris will also show important skills that students will need throughout their education. For example, step-by-step instructions on how to use a dictionary and prepare a report; and subjects like civics and behavior: e.g. how to cross the street and how to protect the environment.
